Loose Noose 05:16
Walk away, these cuts will mend It seems it only took so long for things to sink in And let each day help me forget How I tend to inflate my own value in all of this Well this facade, it fell eventually She said "He lifted me right off my feet" But this was not quite what we had in mind You can scream all you want, you won't be found Don't you know that you're buried underground "Leave today," these thoughts they said But this rope it just hung loose enough to sneak in And from up here we can repress The reality that all along, we each knew it would come to this And if she could talk she'd tell you everything We all fall down so easily But he'll be the one to feel this in the end You can scream all you want, you won't be found Don't you know that you're buried underground
2.
The Dragon 04:19
If I lose the need for air You know you're the first I'll turn to And if I lose the need for air We'll make it, don't despair Is something wrong? When this heart still stands yet all else seems to fail And it goes on and on I can't wait 'til our paths cross again If only in time We'll laugh away the hurt that you once lived with The dragon, he will rise There's a better life ahead No need to force a smile, no short breath There's a bitter life ahead It's easy to forget And it goes on and on I can't wait 'til our paths cross again If only in time We'll laugh away the hurt that you once lived with The dragon, he will rise We are forced to face this truth That there's no eternal youth And the best aren't guaranteed to ramble on Please repair these broken wings

This has to, it happens slowly These thoughts, they just grow so organically And these walls, they're a strong foundation To leave me so undeserving This shelter is perfect A simple thought in my head Has consequences you'd never get To foster dissatisfaction For the good times, they need improving So here we go again We can't escape what's under the skin This can't be all, this can't be all We've drained the blood and lost all feeling But here we go again So here's the part you came for This thing that keeps you wanting more and more It's oh such a show, me versus me To the victor go the spoils So here we go again We can't escape what's under the skin This can't be all, this can't be all We've drained the blood and lost all feeling But here we go again Break the drawing board We can't escape what's under the skin This can't be all, this can't be all We've drained the blood and lost all feeling But here we go again

about

The New Self Defense is a New York City-based post-hardcore band that was originally formed in 2003 after the breakup of the NJ-based band Prevent Falls. Their music has aptly been described as "Quicksand/Helmet meets The Police on meth."

Over the years, The New Self Defense has written and collaborated with the likes of Tim Brennan (Dropkick Murphys), Brian Carley (Penfold) and Alf Bartone (Damn This Desert Air, The Fire Still Burns and Ex Number Five). While the band remained essentially dormant over the last few years, The New Self Defense has since emerged with a new active roster, a handful of face-melting new songs and a new EP, Meet Me Overboard, released in June 2012.

Meet Me Overboard was recorded and mixed by Fred Duey of Pulsar Studios at the Barns in East Moriches, NY in January 2012. Album artwork by Nicholas Bohac.
